Capt. Jacek Rajch, is a great Polish sailor who has spent his life moving with the wind and has sailed more than 250,000 miles around the world.

His first intercontinental trip took place in 1986 when, as a captain of s/y Asterias (J-80), he left Szczecin (Poland) and sailed to Mexico, Havana (Cuba), Miami (USA), Bermuda Island, and back to Poland.

In 1987, in Piraeus, Greece, he took command of the 42.5 ft./12.98 m. long s/y Stomil. Then he left Greece to participate in the celebration of 200 years of european settlement in Sydney, Australia. While in Australia, Stomil took part in all the associated celebration events, including prestigious Sydney-Hobart Race. Under his command, Stomil took 10th place in its class, and 41st in overall classification. From Australia, Capt. Rajch crossed the Pacific ocean and sailed to San Francisco, and then through the Panama Channel to New York. This sailing expedition was also Rajch's personal success for which he received the most prestigious award in polish sailing “Srebrny Sekstant” (Silver Sextant).

In December of 1991 he purchased a French, Amel-Kirk 36" sloop - Ospray - which become Rajch's home. In 2004 he completed circumnavigating the globe, and continues to sail the world. Since then, he has crossed the Pacific Ocean several times, and the Atlantic Ocean more than 20 times.

In July of 2011 we had the  great pleasure of meeting Capt. Jacek Rajch in Getaway Marina, Brooklyn, NY. He was waiting for two crew members, John from Utah and Jacob from Maryland, before crossing Atlantic Ocean again.

For all his achievements, Capt. Rajch remains a humble and ever-jovial man.

On July 25, 2011, Capt. J. Rajch with John and Jacob on board, left NY but were forced to make another stop on Fire Island due to a spreader damage. From there he sailed to Newport, RI where we've met again. Below you can see photos taken during his stay in NY and RI.
